Type and Location
: The wharf is constructed as a pile-supported concrete Island. Position 10° 30’ 50" N and 71° 36’ 08" W, about 8 miles (12.8 Km.) South of Maracaibo city on the Western shore of the Lake and about 9000 Ft. (2743 mts.) off shore with its center line North-South.

Three Vessel’s can be berth simultaneously, two outside at Berth No. 1 and berth No. 3 and one inside at berth No. 2 and can load different type of cargoes. Except for the Boscan Crude where two vessels can load at the same time.

OUT POINTS

- All vessels with a free on board over 29,53’ (9 mts.), must supply the mixed gangway system to embark pilot (SOLAS 74, Rule 17).
- The use of tension winch is not allowed to be used when vessel is equipped with same must be kept in braked ready in case needed to be operated for slack or tighten ropes.
- The use of inert gas system is compulsory for all vessels provided with same and cuold be performed during operation at this Terminal.
- While the vessel laying at the Terminal berth’s Master will insure that all safe practices in loading or discharging oil products.
Contamination of th Lake of Maracaibo waters with either oil or chemical products of any nature is strictly prohibited by Venezuelan Laws. Heavy fines will be applied.
- Ballast Pit capacity of 50.000 Barrels for 2.000 Mt./Hr. ( Vessel must arrive load ready as pit presently is out of service ) .
- The bottom of the lake is composed by Mud & Sand. Water density is of 0.977 - 1.003.
- Two Tugboats normally is used which cost are included in Terminal Dues. Vessels over 60.000 DWT must be assisted with additional Tugboat (Three) with cost to be applied on vessel.
- Bunkers Facilities : Bunker fuel (sometimes called Bunker C), intermediate Bunker Fuel (IBF), Marine Gas Oil (MGO). Bunker rate is aof about 2.500 Bbls./Hr.
- * For Berth n° 1 the nominal deadweight is 55.000 Mt. However vessels up to 61.000 Mts. can be accepted as long it comply with rest of characteristic’s
- Vessels bound to This Terminal must proceed to Guaranao Pilot Station Lat. 11° 42’ N - Long. 71° 13’ W where Channel Pilot (Boarding or Navigator) Pilot will be awaiting.
Entering Bajo Grande Terminal is done between the Main Navigation Channel marker buoy’s B86 & B88 or between B88-B90 depending on circumstances Weather condition.
On approaching the Berth it will be avoided to approach bow to or at any angle with the berth. Vessel will be put in a position parallel and abeam to the berth at a minimum distance of 60 Mts. or more depending upon the prevailing conditions of wind and current and almost without movement. The Tugs whom are already fast will push the vessel .
When maneuver is carried out fro berthing at Pier Nos. 1 or 3 (Outer side) the starboard anchor may be used in agreement with the Mooring Pilot.
At the Berth N° 2 (Inner side) anchors are not to be used due to submarine pipes laid in the area.
After all mooring lines have been cast off, vessel will be towed sideways away from the berth to an distance where she can safely proceed under own means.
Sailing off is done between buoys BG2 - BG3 and buoy B86.
